As a local real estate agent and candidate for Fredericksburg City Council, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges our dedicated teachers and first responders face in securing affordable housing. These essential workers are the backbone of our community, yet many struggle to find homes within their means.

The rising cost of living in Fredericksburg has made homeownership increasingly unattainable for middle-income workers.

According to Virginia Housing, the Workforce Housing Investment Program has been established to help address some of these issues by providing grants, loans, or loan subsidies to local governments and nonprofits such as Central Virginia Housing Coalition to support the development of affordable housing for middle-income workers, however with recent federal cuts to state and local government budgets it will be even more difficult for those who serve our fine city to live here.

As a community we can do better. Once elected as a city council member, I will be committed to advocating for policies that promote the development of affordable housing options for our workforce. By ensuring that teachers and first responders can live within the communities they serve, we not only support them but also strengthen the fabric of our city.

Let us work together to create a stronger Fredericksburg where those who dedicate their lives to educating our children and protecting our citizens can afford to call Fredericksburg home.
